Sean holds a Ph.D. in psychology and is an experienced executive coach specializing in leadership development for social sector leaders, particularly those driving impact in philanthropy and research and development. With deep expertise in evidence-based behavior change methods and mentorship from some of the world's top psychologists, he takes a client-led approach that fosters self-awareness and drives transformational change. Sean also specializes in facilitating impactful convenings and retreats tailored for leaders in philanthropy, education, and research – designing experiences that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, authentic dialogue, and strategic alignment.
After completing his Ph.D. and post-doctoral training in psychology, Sean left academia to lead Character Lab, a nonprofit founded by Angela Duckworth dedicated to advancing the science and practice of character development. His contributions have been featured prominently in leading journals on social-emotional learning, character development, and education innovation. He is passionate about sharing his network and insights to help leaders thrive.
Sean is a Cuban-American from Miami and a former Air Force special operations combat veteran with master’s degrees in industrial-organizational psychology and teaching. He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Character & Leadership Development and sits on several nonprofit boards focused on innovative ways to help kids thrive.
